Has anyone ever been a part of a research study before? I remember I was part of one back in 2018-2019. They were testing a blood pressure medication to see if it would be a good adjunctive treatment for treatment resistance in schizophrenia. I only completed a few weeks of it because the med made my blood pressure drop to dangerously low. My psychiatrist reached out to me again to potentially be part of an art therapy study to see how it affects negative symptoms, I think I’m going to try it. Has anyone else here participated in a study? If so, what were your experiences?
No. But I like the sound of doing art therapy for negatives. That’s a good idea.
Yeah, they wanted to find people with psychosis for genetic research. It turned out that I did not have the genetic sequences that was being studied.
I was in a study for ADHD meds as a child. It was horrible I don’t remember much about it though.
I was in a study on how the brain reacted to various pictures of faces and what they meant to them, angry, happy etc for Schizophrenia people
In return I got a Brain scan is why I took it, they sent me these pics
That sounds really interesting!
im part of an ongoing study for rtms for bipolar
tried to get into this fmri study for schizophrenia but they ran out of funding.
I have done two studies that measured cognitive symptoms before and after brain training exercises. It is worth noting that my hallucinations stopped entirely during the first study and have not returned.
I thought it did too. Hence I enrolled into it. Then when the test came as negative, I felt disheartened because they offered treatment specifically for those with the sequences. It was being done by Cambridge university so it obviously had some merit. I genuinely thought I’d be rid of the tiredness associated with this condition.
That’s so cool! I’ve had numerous MRIs and CT scans done over the past 5 years but I’ve never been able to find the images my mom has the results I think
I was a semi-professional guinea pig for years, actually well paid but nothing to do with psychiatry. Perfect job for me, lying down in bed all day and pretty nurses drawing blood left and right. The only thing I hated was having to quit caffeine before every study.
I’ve done many clinical trials over the years. Just finished one and will be looking for a new one in a couple of weeks.
Yeah, years ago I participated in a study by some Stanford medical students. They were trying to figure out something about schizophrenia. They ran a bunch of tests on me and had me do some simple activities on a video screen and then interpeted the results. I actually did it a bunch of times and the best part was I got paid. The students were all very nice, very cool.
But yeah, I would go for 3 or 4 hours and they would give me $40.00-$60.00. And feed me McDonalds hamburgers for lunch! This was about twenty years ago. One of the last sesssions it took really long so they gave me a $100.00. Not too shabby! They told me it would be a couple years before the results of the study were in.
It was easy money; the tests were simple.
