I want to rent a place with my partner but he don’t want to rent a room or share with anyone., and the house my mum rents out to pay the morgage is earning £1800 a month, so renting in London is impossible for us as we cannot afford that even if she brings rent down to £1500
Have you looked for a place outside London?
I live an hour and a half away from you @anon80629714 by train, and even here rent and property prices are effected by London.
It’s such a joke.
My 1 bed flat was £160k and in Sheffield (Where I thought I’d look), I can get a 3 bedroom detached house for the same money - with a big garden and a garage
I hate living near London
Outside London but near is also very expensive. For example in Hertfordshire can get a place to rent for £1300… but excludes bills. I could technically live with my partner but I have no job and if I move with him my benefits will get cut. I don’t want to burden him.
Yes in or around London is crazy expensive too. I’d like to move as far away from London as I possible can but we see after the pandemic.
Would that mean being far away from family?
That’s literally the only thing keeping me here
Yes and no way of seeing them for long periods of time is why my partner thinks I won’t be able to cope
Im also about an hour and half away from London and rent is unaffordable. A lot of my friends from school had to move away to get their own place. The few that didn’t move away have very decent jobs and have to pay an awful lot to rent tiny flats.
the summary is living in london or the UK is not affordable.
besides r there jobs?
a friend of mine many years ago went to uk to do management degree but returned back to india saying that he did not find a job after doing mgmt degree there.
i dont know how true that is
I keep trying to plan our moves farther from family. Didn’t work this last time.
It’s difficult and with the salary I plan to earn it’s going to be tough , even with the £60,000 my partner earns it’s going to be tough.
well thats tough to hear
definitely not easy
True for London
UK, if you go north of the midlands, it’s much more affordable. The trouble is the well paid jobs are mainly in the south east region, so salary is less.
There are some roles that are paid nationally, but in most cases you’d get more if you work in London because it is so much more expensive.
Well, its the South specifically that is problematic. In the midlands and north England, and Wales and Scotland it is doable (assuming you work - which I don’t).
My parents are literally all I have, and I owe them a massive debt for sticking by me through the bad times.
I think it would be a kick in the teeth to them if I left and moved far away
Plus I like their company.
oh ok i get it.
i m from india so i dont know much abt the uk
oh ok
i got it
so it depends on the region that u live in
I think it’s true for most cities around the world. They’re just so much more expensive, as they have the jobs and can charge a premium.
Saw a thing about how expensive San Francisco is on the TV.
Looks like many places people on ordinary salaries are forced out unless they have some sort of legacy that allows them to live in areas being bought up by high earners who drive the value of an area up through their demand on the property market
ok u r right
it makes sense
also u r right that its the scenario in most cities around the globe
