Forgive my crudeness, but was sitting on the toilet reading my “Beginners Guide to Sanity” book, and saw that this forum was mentioned in the glossary. And its got to be better than the stuff on FB, thats for sure. So Im very glad to be here and hopefully to be active.
Im 35, married, 2 children, live/raised in London though interestingly I was born in the final years of the DDR… by trade I was a Registered Nurse til I became unwell myself (in mid 20s), so now Im at home and do my best running things from here. The cooking, the cleaning, the chores, the shopping, the ironing, school stuff for the kids .etc
For fun; I play the banjo, and I read a lot. When Im unwell, I tend to go for video-games and loud music. Once upon a time I was a competitive semi-pro boxer and very much into fitness, though thats pretty much out the window now. Generally I like to spend time with my family and wind them up. Ill see friends once in a while.
I currently take Amisulpride, though Clozapine is now on the cards as I seem to be having more breakthrough-symptoms than before, plus a lot more intensive. Alongside Schizophrenia, I have a pituitary macroadenoma thats inactive and benign. And I suffer with Cluster Headaches that require hi-flo home oxygen for treatment.
I think thats all I want to say. Hope Ive not said too much or put you to sleep. I look forward to other posts.
From the pronunciation of African slaves, of unknown ultimate origin. Possibly a corruption of bandore, alternatively from a West African language such as Mandinkabanjul, or Kimbundumbanza. [1]
My favourite style of playing is the Minstrel style, as it happens. Which is the “black banjo” as they call it, pre Civil War. Prefer it to bluegrass anyway haha
I miss it terribly. I used to love waking up super early, getting down to the club for 6am, wraps on, quick warm up and then 6 rounds heavy sparring. Then the circuits and technical work. Plus the great banter everyone has; bleeding, sweating and growing together. And that late night jogging too, miss that a ton. In my prime, was 100kg at 6ft tall. Was in the best shape of my life and most disciplined. Sadly, I cannot return. But I do advocate that if you personally can, then do it!
If I keep on top of things, its easy, but does require consistency; which can get tricky some days if I aint doing too good. Wife is understanding, and the kids aint toooo bad with mess. Though one is a teen and the other a pre-teen.
We recently got a new kitten and believe it or not we named him Banjo.
And I play banjo myself plus I am learning the guitar. The only instrument that I have developed any proficiency with is the didgeridoo as that was my first musical love.
Enjoy your stay with us. I had no idea this forum was listed in a book. Neato!
