Does anyone’s psychosis go haywire during their period? If yes does it go away when it’s finished?
Sorry for intruding on a ladies only topic. Noticed on my ex’s. It seemed to dissipate with the birth control pill. Which seems to be the consensus on the forums on the net with schizophrenia, bipolar, depression, borderline personality disorder etc that the birth control does help with symptoms increasing due to their monthly circle. It doesn’t seem to be all the birth control pill something to talk to your doctor about at any rate.
yes I have posted about this. It is a disaster usually. Emotional craziness with delusions and anger.
I try to relax on those days and get distracted.
Thanks so much for posting. I really appreciate you’re advice and help. Seeing the doctor on Friday.
I’m trying to do the same. Thanks for posting a reply
No I’ve never noticed this
I have PCOS, so I rarely ever get my period, and I’m glad.
I don’t get psychotic during my periods, but in the week leading up to it, I get more easily sad and bitchy.
My psychosis acts up majorly. Birth control actually made the problem worse for me. I have the Skyla IUD. Estrogen birth control tends to help more than progesterone only, but I can’t take estrogen because of my migraines. It increases the risk of stroke in patients who get migraines with aura.
No psychosis. But mood goes haywire for sure.
Thanks for your reply.
I don’t notice anything different during my period. I don’t get pms though either.
I’m on the pill, so I get a period about every 2-3 months. I can choose when to take placebo and have a period, and my body seems to be ready then. I do feel more unstable when I’m off the pill and having a period. Every time, I can’t wait to get back on and feel more balanced.
Since I’m 50, I have to start thinking about going off the pill for good as my body goes through menopause, but I panicked at the thought of going off now. I’m going to wait until I’m 55.
Anyway, yes, my cycle absolutely affects my sense of psychological balance, and the pill does make me feel better.
when I was younger I used to go absolutely nuts about 3 days before I started. Once I started I was back to my normal crazy self. I never tried birth control pills for it, no one ever mentioned it to me. Wish I would have known then.
I’m on Risperdal, so I don’t get a period. I’m glad that I don’t, because the SZ was causing me to starve myself and I lost so much weight that my periods went out of whack.
For me, I’m the worst during ovulation. I’ve been tracking for a while and now know the worst is after my period. It’s weird. Hormones are such a pain in the a$%!!
I can always tell when Auntie is going to visit from the mood swings the day before, never even needed to put anything on a calendar.
I tend to cry easier at silly little things, but not for very long.
Thanks for your reply
Thanks for your reply @Hedgehog. It definitely causes havoc for me. I might try the pill in the hope that it will help. I’m literally symptom free other than at that time of the month. Do you mind sharing what brand you are on?
Thanks for your reply @tera. Looks like I’m not alone. Will definitely give the pill a go.
Thanks for replying @metime
