A question about periods and SZ

I’ve read several places that sz is, amongst other things, caused by too much dopamine in the brain.
I’ve also read several places that PMS and periods temporarily lower dopamine.

So my question is this, shouldn’t I be more “normal” when I’m on my period? I feel like my symptoms get worse when I’m PMS’ing, especially the negatives.
How come?

probably due to more stress than usual

That is a good question, and alas, I have no answer or anything to compare it with. I have hypoprolactinemia from my APs and had only 2 periods last year.

I have PCOS, so I don’t get my periods often either, but every 5 weeks or so, I get moody for a few days before I have tiny bleeds and it goes away.

Once every 4 times or so, it comes on me full-force, though. Like I’m trying to make up for the lack of bleeding or something, it’s really nasty.

My friend also notices that I get more moody those days leading up to periods, no matter how small they are.
I don’t want my friends to notice, but trying to hide it makes me more quiet, and being more quiet makes me seem moody.

I also have PCOS and my periods are pretty irregular, but my symptoms definitely get worse when I’m PMSing.

I haven’t had periods in like 2 years now, so I wouldn’t know how my symptoms react to it, unfortunately. :frowning:

I don’t think its related to schizophrenia,

But my periods are awful.

I’m constantly irritated and panicky.

my symptoms worsen with my periods.

Really pleased you brought this up, I have thought a lot about this myself to the point that I track my symptoms. From my experience my paranoid thoughts/fears worsen a week before I’m due. And I am at my best around ovulation.

I find that of the many times I’ve been hospitalized that I am usually on my period or about to get it.

It’s happened too many times to be a coincidence. So for me it worsens my symptoms I guess
