“This topic will close 14 days after the last reply.”
So one would expect every topic that remains inactive for 2 weeks to be automatically closed, right? And yet some topics get closed after merely 7 days. Others stay open for longer than 14 days.
I know mods may close any topic as they see fit. That’s not what I’m asking here.
- Is there an option available to the OP, as to how long their thread will stay open ?
- Can mods force a thread to stay open regardless of its activity ?
(Answers are probably 1-No, 2-Yes. Just want to know for sure
)
Thanks for your kind reply.
I’d love for the forums to get fixed so that every single post recommended for me isn’t already locked. Like what the heck???

We can reopen closed topics, sure.
We can also set the time for locks. Does it always work properly? No.
Of there is a topic you’d like to see reopened, check the date of the last post. If it is more than say, 3 months old, make a new thread on that topic. If it less than 3 months old you can send a PM to a mod and we can decide if it should be reopened or a new thread made.

Also when you make a new thread, you can start by linking to the old and closed thread.

I’m just pointing out that 99% of the topics that are recommended to me are locked. It’s probably the stupidest thing this forum software does (next to the crap blocking features).

Wish I could fix that. I’ll post on the software forum.

Not a mod, but I remember when we started doing that. It is mostly because a lot of the OPs of old threads hated getting new activity on them after the topic was no longer relevant. Different categories have different expiration dates. It all has to do with how long, on average, it takes for someone to be like “Can this thread be locked? I no longer feel the way I did when I posted this.” And it mostly saved a lot of time and clerical work, and helped people move on from impulsive posts. .
