Hello, I’ve been smoking 40 cigarettes a day, this has started to bother me, it hinders me in my activities. I WANT TO STOP SMOKING! I have read on the web about chantix, good comments but the people who wrote it do not suffer from schizophrenia.
Has anyone here with schizophrenia used chantix? I’m afraid of side effects, but I think this medication is the only solution to my tobacco addiction.
Yeah. Miracle drug for me. Didn’t even finish the course and haven’t had a smoke since 2009. I was a pack a day man from 14 to 39! I tried everything to give up and chantix was the simplest way for me.
As to side effects. It can make you a little sick when you take it. That passed quickly for me. All in all a simple process. You still smoke for the first week or so and I smoked heaps. Just came to a day and I said I won’t buy any cigarettes today. Was amazed I didn’t even crave them anymore and I’d tried everything to give up previously.
Give it a go! If you are sick in the stomach early it may pass. We are all so different but it’s worth a shot!
There was a forum member from before that used it. He said it helped him quit but made his sz so bad he almost went in the hospital. I’ve heard it makes psych illnesses worse but everyone is different. Good luck.
I’ve been thinking a lot about this, my psychiatrist agrees to use chantix. Another psychiatrist that I have seen has completely discouraged him I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO!
I do not know if I go to the local neuropsychiatric hospital.
On the other hand I was thinking about using an electronic cigarette, but I do not know if I can use it at work or university.
@jukebox I think you’ve used chantix or at least that’s what they told me, how was it?
I started Chantix but the psychiatrist for the clinical trial I was on told me to stop and never try to take it again. Too dangerous for people with schizophrenia.
