Do kids with ODD mistreat animals? I talked to my son today and he was being very sweet with his cat. He supposedly has ODD
Can that be treated?
My brother had ODD and was never mean to animals.
It can with therapy.
“Unlike children with conduct disorder (CD), children with oppositional defiant disorder are not aggressive towards people or animals, do not destroy property, and do not show a pattern of theft or deceit.”
My oldest has it, he prefers animals over people unless he can find his people. Weird phrasing, but he made a good group of misfit friends, only a couple are girls as he has female oriented ODD. But since he’s been off meds of all kinds, he’s been way better. It seems to have started when SD school forced us to put him on ADHD meds and bipolar meds, they really messed him up and he quit them before school started last year when he entered high school. His improvements are great.
Of course we also had to deal with the female therapist that wanted him to date her. He was 16 and she was 26 with a 5 year old and divorced. It’s been a rough ride. But she has been dealt with, he does no therapy, he’s got “the gang” in life from school and half of them are part of the Xbox “gang” that he is doing the best with. And we also told him that he can have reactions to anything, so anger has gone down since we basically told him you can do what you want say what you want as long as it’s not illegal or will get someone hurt.
Also us being in WI he’s allowed to drink within the house, 1 wine cooler. He doesn’t have a license and only goes for walks when it’s not satan’s balls hot here. He knows the drinking is only weekends once school starts again. That’s our agreement, I also told him how bad I drank as a kid and what almost happened, and friends are not allowed over to drink ever.
That helps a lot. Thank you
Goodluck with it, I swear the friends thing is the best answer, the misfit groups ended up being our best. But the meds thing too, check what is being used as some causes way worse aggression.
But kitten videos work to help too, kids call it the cat tax. We can’t have pets as John is allergic to animals with black fur, and I will only get black cats, cause ya know, lol.
Damn, I’m afraid to sneeze and not say “excuse me”, or I’ll be diagnosed with “Pathological Insensitivity Disorder”.
I can attest to this. Starlet came to us on like 5 different meds. Over time, we have gotten him down to 2, and much lower doses of those 2. He has been much more affectionate and respectful since then.
We only had him on them because the school decided they could force our hand. We fought back now, and since we’ve got our pediatrician on our side and he hates our district with a passion, he gave us the names of lawyers if we need them. He’s been a great advocate for my kids health and Battles for us. I hope we get 5 more years from him as he is a late 50’s early 60’s year old man, but he’s a no ■■■■■■■■taking guy.
