PTSD and OCD

The other day my pdoc diagnosed me ptsd and OCD stemming from my previous psychotic episodes. I don’t quite understand the OCD, I’m a bit of a clean freak and my food has to be fresh but i don’t think I’m on OCD level. I think maybe it has something to do with my thought process relating to the ptsd. I often get these painful memories and it really feels like it hurts emotionally, I shut my eyes real tight and grab my head and mutter a bunch of swear words and do my best to shut it out. I think that’s what he meant by there being obsession and compulsion.

sorry to hear that. I have PTSD and OCD too along with racing thoughts. =(
The med changed helped a lot.

You should ask your pdoc why he diagnosed you OCD. You shouldn’t have to guess.
I’m sorry you have trauma that brought on PTSD. I hope you’re finding ways to work through it and find some peace.

i avoid thinking of my past, most times.

I moved this to the Dx: Other category, since it’s technically about other disorders. I have PTSD and OCD too. It’s a hard combination. The PTSD and OCD kind of feed into each other and cause a lot of stress.

I think i might have PTSD from some bad hallucinations i had in 2012. I am going to look into it and talk to my doctor. Memories of these hallucinations pop into my head all the time and it really freaks me out.

Maybe it’s because of intrusive thoughts? My ptsd gives me many terrible intrusive thoughts and many would classify those as an OCD symptom. Also if you have different rituals to keep yourself save. I’ve had those before. But I don’t present any OCD symptoms strongly enough to actually be diagnosed w it’s just “features” of it apparently.

He did explain it but I wasn’t really taking it in/ I can’t remember. I will ask again when I see my therapist next week, she works with my pdoc. I remember him saying that the ptsd and OCD feed into each other though. We are planning to tackle it with CBT and we decided that once it’s sorted out we’ll reduce my meds.

@SpecialK I think our experiences are similar in psychosis and recovery

CBT was a huge turning point for me. I hope you get a lot out of it too!
