Does anyone have this diagnosis? What does it mean?
My diagnosis is SZA/bipolar but my depression can turn psychotic.
I was in the hospital and my doctor first said I had schizophrenia, then psychotic depression. He changed his mind I guess. What’s the difference?
Much better prognosis and the psychosis is tied to the mood symptoms.
I see. I guess it’s weird because I didn’t get depressed until after I started having voices. Does the psychosis cause the depression then?
They are two different kinds of disorders.
With psychotic depression someone will become psychotic when they become depressed.
With Schizophrenia psychosis occurs anytime, you don’t have to be depressed.
Yes psychotic depression has a better prognosis.
i think my mom has this. shes been diagnosed with depression but when she gets really depressed she starts to believe “it” is following her and she’ll see shadow people and get paranoid about demons a lot
I also heard that those with Psydep May have better insight if psychotic. Well so I heard anyways
Deterioration.
Brief psychoses are just that - brief. Psychotic episodes in schizophrenia cause deterioration mentally and lead to diminished functioning over time. That loss does not come back for the most part especially without psychiatric care. Brief psychotic disorders by definition have a beginning and end and don’t often cause the kind of functional deterioration that psychosis in schizophrenia does.
Thanks guys. I guess maybe I thought I wasn’t depressed before but was. I dunno I feel like I would know if I were depressed, but also I’m not a doctor. My therapist said that the diagnosis doesn’t matter so long as we treat it. I feel ready to do calculus again honestly.
