Psychosis and environment

Does science have an answer? How much does environment matter when it comes to psychosis and esp. sz?

My uninformed opinion is that biological, genetic and chemical information is all that matters. With the exception of drugs, environment doesnt have an influence on the development of sz and psychosis.

I think it would be throwing the baby out with the bath water to totally dismiss environmental factors . There is a wealth of evidence out there pointing an environmental contribution to psychosis/schizophrenia.

Basically the loser syndrome? Being a loser predisposes one to developing psychosis?

Hey man I played sports for years with pain and one day I just got really tired. Didn’t really know what was wrong so I went to a psychiatrist. The rest is history. I don’t think I would have ever gotten on meds if I didn’t just get overwhelmingly tired. It’s probably a good thing I’m meds though. Edit: I was getting yelled at the entire time which may have caused the tired feeling.

It seems that certain environmental stressors can predispose people to psychosis because they change gene expression.

For this reason, environmental stressors during development are the most damaging.

Edit to add: that would include childhood abuse, famine and deficiencies, disease, brain injury and drugs.

I believe in direct experience. Science is great for explaining how a particle collides but it doesn’t explain the psycho social aspect of life or how to exist.

I would consider childhood trauma a lot. Many people who are diagnosed with schizophrenia have a history of childhood trauma. Anyway, you all have to discover about it on your own. If I talk too much, I get flagged.
