Proper backpacking trip this time to Sri Lanka

if things calm down in Sri Lanka I’m planning a proper backpacking trip this March going for 24 days travelling around Sri Lanka by bus and train staying in cheap rooms. Hopefully getting as much in as possible. March just gone I just stayed in one place called Hikkaduwa and was beautiful but now I feel like I have more courage to go exploring. I hope the economy improves before my travels. This is the first time I’ve done proper backpacking since I backpacked India for 8 months in 2006/07.

Sounds dangerous :astonished:

If not my second option would be Koh Samui in Thailand for 24 days.

Sounds great!

Problem for me with a holiday like that is my access to gluten free food.

I don’t think you get much choice if your gluten free or dairy free.

Sri lanka is screwed financially. It won’t be credible to holiday there for awhile.

I expect lots of photos!!!

(Especially since you take very good photos.)

Youve spent more time in India than I have … would love to visit sri Lanka but I don’t like flying that far and I don’t know why I even agreed to Grenada.

it is a long journey, and Sri Lanka airlines seats are quite cramped. I had to ask for a seatbelt extender. On a recent flight to Turkey I didn’t need a seatbelt extender. Sri Lankans are small people. I didn’t really see any big people. I seen big Indian people in India though and a lot of big people travel to Turkey as its a cheap holiday destination for Europeans.

I could visit Morocco in Jan for 24 days. This is closer to Europe and I could perhaps travel from Morocco into South Spain and spend 5 days there then fly back to England. Flights from Spain to England are cheap and they go to my local airport.

If you can go on vacations and backpack why aren’t you working?

Don’t give me that learning disability ■■■■.

Imma backpack to the large pond 15 minutes down the road and set up some cameras this evening.

@bobbilly - Sri Lanka is not safe at the moment

I hope you go somewhere else

^^ This ^^ Sri Lanka is in a bad state at the moment. Lots of government problems and economically in trouble. I wouldn’t be going there and your country should have an travel advisory board which tells you what is good for travel. I’d be looking at that first.
