Just got back from doc, prolactin levels are up he said, more blood work needed, testosterone and others are being tested for as well.
I am on Abilify and I was thinking it would help with my prolactin and I haven’t had it up in 2 years since starting medication, not sure what changed.
Besides the man boobs and lactation issues that I have read about, what does higher levels of prolactin do in males?
My prolactin is above the normal range.
My testosterone is about half of what normal should be.
My doctor is making me get an MRI to see if I have a tumor on my pituitary gland.
A tumor can cause high prolactin and low testosterone as well.
The situation sucks, I have a little gynecomastia and its hard to lose weight.
I will be getting testosterone injections, but I have to wait till the MRI comes back.
Hopefully you don’t have a tumor man, same for me hopefully I don’t as well although I still have blood work to wait on before I know about testosterone.
My prolactin is high but I don’t do anything about it .got the scan mri done it was clear … some people on this forum have prolactin high for 18 years … eventually I will get osteoporosis but what can I do life is hard right now
Yeah I don’t know what to do about it if I have one.
If it’s small they go into the skull through the nose, if it’s bigger they have to go through the skull directly.
I really am not keen on either surgery.
I’m hoping the MRI is negative, but all my blood tests have exhausted a cause for low testosterone.
Like I said, it sucks.
I hope you can find a cause that isn’t as severe.
So after 3 blood tests and 2 visits to an endocrinologist, I am now told my prolactin levels are elevated due to my medicine.
I knew that once I saw the first elevated result but I guess I didn’t completely know it wasn’t a tumor or something else. All my other levels look fine so no need to see an endocrinologist again.
400 dollars worth of blood work later after insurance takes some of the bill away and I am done with blood work for 3 or 6 months.
