High prolactin levels. What to do?

I recently went for my blood work and annual check up. Last time I went my cholesterol and triglycerides were high and I weighed 171 lbs. When I went for my check up I told the doctor to check for my prolactin levels too. The results came back really good and I weigh 154lbs, cut out a lot of sugar and have been walking a lot. The only thing he said is that my prolactin levels were too high which of course is because of the medication. He scheduled for an MRI to make sure that I don’t have a tumor on my pituitary gland and that everything is ok.

I spoke to my psychiatrist and told her that I will forward her the results. I’m currently trying to get off Wellbutrin and my psychiatrist has lowered the dose. I also went from getting Invega Sustenna monthly injection of 234mg to 156mg successfully and my symptoms are virtually non existent. The pcp was saying that maybe my psychiatrist could prescribe something to lower the prolactin levels but it’s also going to have side effects.

What do you guys recommend I do? Just worried that long term these high prolactin levels don’t mess me up. Need advice.

Replace part of your Invega with Abilify. Invega raises prolactine but not Abilify. Honestly I probably have high prolactine from 6mg Risperdal but I dont care about it as its not dangerous.

I definitely have sexual dysfunction, low libido, low semen volume. I’ve been on this medication for 3 years now and am doing really well so I don’t want to change anything. I’m trying to take less medication so adding another would be another headache to deal with. The first time I got tested for prolactin levels was almost 2 years ago and the psychiatrist didn’t even say anything about it. I’ll bring it up next time I see her. Anyone else got anymore advice.

Now that you posted that my knees have also been snapping. It’s weird but they click when I twist a certain way. Hopefully that’s isn’t a sign of osteoporosis.

My knees click every time I bend down more than parallel. Done that for decades and no problem. On Olanzapine.

I feel a lot better knowing that. I think I’m getting too paranoid about the high prolactin levels.

Vitamin E is good for high prolactin I read.

Apparently I have to just ignore it, as the benefit of taking the medication outweighs the risk of high prolactin

I’m due a blood test for This. It’s quite delayed by some months. Hopefully it’s gonna be okay!

Best to ask your doctor what to do I don’t think there’s anything to do about it

I’m on clozapine and they added Amisulpride to my chart but blood tests said my prolactin levels were raised so now they taken me off Amisulpride and going on abilify. I recommend trying a different medication

I’m scared to try to different medication. This medication has helped me tremendously and it’s scary to lose all the progress I’ve made in the past 3 years trying to switch medications. I’m scared to even think about it.

my nurse practitioner says its not the prolactin itself that is the problem it is the pituitary gland function that the drug messes with.

Yea my primary scheduled an MRI for me to get it checked out.

There is evidence that 5mg abilify lowers prolactin.

When i used to start invega my prolactin levels were 50ng/mL now its 25 ng/mL .i don t have any problem with prolactine but some people have.

Yes I can understand that
What is your doctor advise

So I went for an MRI last month and they forwarded the results to my PCP. I’m assuming everything went fine because I didn’t get a call back from the doctor or anything else concerning the results. Maybe I should follow up with him.

I’m sza and been on invega for three years also.
My prolactin was 41 and I got it checked because of thought broadcasting/intrusive thoughts.
I’ve been on abilify 5mg for a while now and the last bit of symptoms are slowly going away.

Aripiprazole.

Might want to try dietary intervention if you have excess body fat around and inside abdomen.
