Project Huckleberry Underway (Suggestions Hoped For)

“C’mon Huck, don’t be such a sissy in the face of real adventure.” - Mark Twain

We’re staking out the territory to decide if we’ll start looking for work in Portland in 3-6 months.

Today:

Booked Motel in Downtown Portland for 4 Days in late May (46 days)

Got Train Tickets (Neither my husband nor I want to drive up there)

This week:

Search for new MP3 player - any suggestions?

Consider Soundtrack - this is music for the anxiety of being on the train or bridges, so calming/classical - any ideas?

Consider other helpers for shoulder-to-shoulder travel anxiety once we get to Portland transit. I’ve got sunglasses. Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

Of course it depends on how much you want to spend on the MP3 player, but I’d recommend the Apple iPod Touch ($169).

Binaural beats is very relaxing to listen to.

Are you travelling to Portland, OR or Portland, ME?

THANK YOU. I always forget there is another Portland having been near to this one for so long. It’s Portland, Oregon.

Yeah, I thought Portland, OR.

Maybe some breathing exercises on the train to relax? Also, some people find it helpful to chew gum.

Snacks and drinks and good conversation. Simon and Garfunkel greatest hits. I always think classical music will be calming but when I try to listen to it every few years, its just boring and annoying.

Thanks. I sometimes remember to breathe and will try harder to remember but I should not chew gum for medical reasons (poorly regulated ear pressure) even though it really does help with nervous energy. I do wear a grind guard due to TD, though, and biting down on that does help.

I haven’t been getting regular treatment for anxiety, either, even though it’s bad enough that I have it as a separate diagnosis from two different healthcare providers. I’m working on that and imagine it will help a ton. It’s mostly if I get paranoid that being too close to people really worries me. I won’t do anything; it’s just torturous.

Hubby found a gluten-free bakery near our motel. I imagine if I eat all the cinnamon rolls I haven’t been eating at home, I’ll be too sedated to worry how close the train passengers are to me.

I just told my husband yesterday that a lot of classical is “too violent” for me. Some of it gets too rambunctious to be relaxing. Simon and Garfunkel is something I would not have considered but I think it is a stellar suggestion. Thank you.
