Whats your diagnosis?

The clinical diagnosis is psychosis NOS

NOS means not otherwise specified.

Kind of mysterious :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

What is your main symptom from the mood component of schizoaffective?

I had psychosis nos in the beginning.
I and my psychiatrist were not sure about my diagnosis then

Depression. I have depression.
I have been taking antidepressants
since the onset of sz.
I was depressed from the start

i have it, basically just sza without mania, like the psychosis is still as terrible but mood always leans towards depression, no highs

I have no highs either.
If i had i wouldnt be able to take antidepressants
because they would trigger mania or hypomania

yea i also take an antidepressant, zoloft and no mania still relatively depressed

Yes mildly depressed all the time.
Sometimes I’m extremely sad though

According to my current psychiatrist, schizoaffective is a nonsense disorder.
He either uses bipolar or schizophrenia to diagnose his patients.
I tend to agree with him.
Schizophrenia with a mood disorder is more like it.
IMO there are too many diagnoses with psychiatry.
More than half of them are redundant and insignificant

Anyone else with depression and no highs?

0.3% of damned people.
But it would be worse if i had mania also.
Thank god i dont

Diagnoses really just say you meet the criteria based on symptoms for x disorder

Schizoaffective depressive type is different because you get psychosis during and without depression, so major depression doesnt make sense.

With bipolar type you get psychosis with and without mania and depression

Bipolar/major depression tends to need a mood stablizer where as sza needs a mood stablizer/antidepressant and an AP.

It really feels arbritrary since things overlap so much but its mostly just a short hand way to communicate that your symptoms align with what we call sza.

I have bipolar type but my main mood issues are depression, though now its more like i just get mixed episodes.

If you had mania even once, it’s sza bipolar.

I never had swings, except when i was in prodromal. Back then i was confused about my feelings

I felt that way for a long time too, up to a year after my first episode

Many times Bipolar requires an AP
I have been on APs most of my life

Bipolar 1 with Psychotic Features is treated the exact same way as Schizoaffective Bipolar Type.

Mood stabilizers and antipsychotics with caution placed on antidepressants
