Poll: Should people with SZ play violent video games?

I see there are a lot of gamers on the forum, which I think is cool. I know in the past people have said that violence in video games can have a negative effect on people.

Do you think people with SZ should play violent video games?

By the way, I’m simply asking a question. I’m not making any type of statement one way or another.

  • Yes
  • No
  • I don’t really care.

Since this is an open-ended question, I’ll offer my unsolicited opinion. I don’t think violent video games stack the cards against schizophrenics or incite them to violence. I don’t think it really predisposes ANYONE to violence. Just because someone commits are a crime and they happened to play FPS or whatever does not predetermine they will commit an act of violence. Looking at the other side of the coin, it’s certain that a certain population of people who play RPGs or Soduko will commit violence too. I don’t see the causation from violent games to real-life violence. Clear as mud? Thought so.

I chose No, but then again I don’t think anyone should be playing violent video games.

Our society is violent enough.

My view is that the games are virtual worlds to sublimate negative feelings in. Better I went and killed 10k people with a shotgun in Gears of War 3 when I went psychotic than killing one person for real with a shotgun.

I played call of duty for years. I liked to save the world and lead the allies to victory. But then it was controversial in the airport scene in MW3 where you had to shoot civilians to not blow your cover?

After playing the same game 3 times, that was the end of it for me. I started playing left 4 dead. I liked saving people better than shooting enemies. And bioshock was a little more abstract than war.

Then I decided all those type games are a waste of time and went cold turkey.

My house mate thinks that he wasted his life playing computer games and wished he’d spent his youth doing things like chasing more women and maybe getting married,

I’ve also played the airport scene in mw3 and L4D2. I think in some ways some company’s are subtlety toning down the level of violence.

Like in CS:GO if you shoot a dead body you don’t get their blood splatter every where, as to discourage people emptying clips into people for perverse satisfaction. Also in the old HL blood was a yellowy green as in some country’s the enemy’s aren’t allowed red blood.

Although I would steer clear of something like man hunt.

considering we are delusional any variety of things could happen so we wouldn’t always be able to handle watching us and it could be side effects might not be best for us always

I’m more concerned with when they make virtual reality games and people start losing their lives and crap- like the guy who is trying to sue the makers of Fallout 4 for making him lose his job wife and kids.

I haven’t played video games in my home in over a year because they’re so addictive. They’re dangerous, they are like gambling. Huge black hole of time and money.

I don’t think anyone should be playing violent games . I think there is way too much violence in our culture. You are what you eat.

I play violent video games all the time (sometimes up to 12 hours a day if I have that much free time) and I’ve never done anything violent in my life

I play violent video games as a medium to get my violence out so it doesn’t resonate when i get angry at the real world. For me at least its an excellent escape to be able to shoot people in the virtual world. It makes me less aggresive in the real world but i can see how for others it could be different

that a good point

I can’t stand violence, either it’s on tv or shows or games. I know others can’t stand it either.
