It made me extremely nauseous and I threw up pretty much everything I ate. But I still gained 30 lbs. so it wasn’t the med for me. It works well for a lot of people, though.
I just wanted to bring up my nausea to point out that even without eating, I still gained weight. Some people will try to make it sound like you just gain weight on certain meds because of increased appetite, but that’s not necessarily true. It’s not your fault if you’re gaining weight.
My doc took me off after one month because he was concerned about my weight gain and nausea. But every med affects every person differently. I’ve worked with kids who were on risperidone who stayed weight neutral or even lost weight.
I took 6mg of Resperidone tablet. Had no sexual side effects, but at low doses it made me very drowsy throughout the day until at 5mg when it went away. But it made me gain like 35 pounds in a year and a half but I was very skinny so I’m happy about the weight now.
It helped me relax, I wasn’t so irritated anymore and it calmed down the delusions and hallucinations until 4 months into being at 6mg it just stopped working. So I switched and I’m still in the middle of transitioning to Olanzapine to get to 15mg. It was a good medicine but I was just always so tired for almost a year.
