My friend has leaked out of hers before, but I never have. She has godzilla periods though, to the point where she sometines needs to be hospitalized.
Edited because apparently she only ever ALMOST needed a transfusion.

Holy shite, and I thought mine were bad 
Sometimes it barely takes me an hour to leak through the thickest pads I can find
