Menstruating bodies talk (cw: blood)

Hey friends!

What is your chosen hygiene device when menstruating? I just started using a cup and I really like it so far. I previously used pads which created a lot of waste. So I’m trying to be more eco-friendly and use one long term. I find that when I’m psychotic I don’t take care of my hygiene sometimes- which can be challenging.

I have some physical/mental limitations, so I can only use pads. I force myself to use tampons + pads if I have a particularly heavy flow.

I’ve heard great things about the cup.
I’d really like to try Period Panties.

The Cup sounds interesting.

Heard a lot of good things about it.

Personally, I’ve been using tampons for years. I used to be a swimmer, so those were the go-to during the monthlies.

I’ve used a pad maybe twice in my life.

…They chonky.

If you’ve been using tampons, you might get used to the cup pretty quickly!

I haven’t found the right cup yet. I might buy another one to try but my mom would probably yell at me because I spend too much money on them lol.

Ah, eeeenteresting!

So there’s different kinds , cool.

I’ve personally heard of the Diva Cup; pretty sure some members here use that one.

Lol, well I’d say it’s a valid investment, @laetitia-- sounds like they’re worth the money.

I have a really light flow, so it’s tampons for me. I have heard good things about the diva cup tho

They’re definitely worth the money as they can be used up to 5 years if it was used well.

I use the June cup and it is seriously the best thing ever! $6 and it has lasted over a year so far! I love so much about it.

I’m going to have to look into that. It never fails. I always leak. I can use a tampon and a pad and still end up leaking. I was looking at period panties recently.

My friend has a very heavy flow and has to change the cup every hour or 2 on her heaviest day. I have a moderate/light flow and can leave it in from wak up to bed time.

They are better than tampons, because tampons really hurt going in, and hurt even more coming out unless they’re full. The cup is smooth silicone, so it doesn’t scrape the way rough cotton does.

I use tampons. I’ve tried cups, but all of them are too big for me and incredibly uncomfortable. Really wish I could find one, they seem to be a much better alternative.

This is the one I just got my teen. He hasn’t had a chance to try it yet, but it is advertised for smaller people.

I have a heavy flow myself and I have to change the cup every hour too. But I feel so much better using a cup than a sanitary pad.

I’m sorry if I cross the line on this, but if he has a chance, measuring the size of the space where the cup would go in would help. I cringed at the idea of measuring my insides but it helped me to find the cup I’m using right now. It’s not the cup I like but it fits ok!

If you find it uncomfortable talking about this, please forgive me.

I mostly use pads. I have a heavy flow, so pads are easiest for me.

If I’m going swimming, I’ll wear a super tampon.

If I’m going to an all day festival with limited access to toilets, I’ll wear a tampon + a pad, but I’ll be sure to put the tampon in right before, so that it’s not in there too long. Like the Arts Festival; we spend most of the day there.

Not uncomfortable, and good advice, but im totally not gonna have that conversation with him unless it seems like he actually needs it.

I’m thinking of getting some period panties

Maybe those who say the cup is too big should try the disc.

It’s not easier to put in,

But it is more flexible and is softer material.

Yeah, I think that’s a good approach. Many people find the idea uncomfortable so I was worried if you feel the same.

I used to only use pads bc my body physically wouldnt accept tampons due to sexual trauma. now i use tampons and omg its so much cleaner and smells less and i wish i hadnt gone so long not using them! (not that i could completely control it)
