If you still get your period, have you tried menstrual cups? I just bought and used the June cup for the first time. It’s my first time with a cup, though I tried disc’s in the past and liked them.
I always wanted to try a cup but either never had the cash ( most are over $30) or just forgot when I did have it. However, June is selling their cup for only $6 during this Covid time because many are out of work, etc.
It’s soft silicone so no allergy problems. I can’t use the rubber ones due to severe latex allergy.
After some initial discomfort and frustration, I figured out how to insert and get sealed. After that, my period was a breeze. Normally I have a horrible one with cramps, super bad leaks, and just a darn mess.
With this cup there was none of that. It’s amazing and liberating.
I wanted to share in case any of you wanted to try a cup but were put off by the cost. Once shipping and handling is added the bill comes to $9.99
Not only are they doing the discount, the company is inclusive. One of their ad models is a trans male! They call it menstrual care, not feminine hygiene.
If you have questions about using a cup, feel free to ask. I’m new to it but happy to share what 8 learned and look up stuff for you.
I don’t have periods anymore but have a question that may apply to others. I regularly used to have blood clots that were so large I had to push them out. It happened ever month. Would the cup hold something that large? They were the size of large oranges
My period is messed up because I have an IUD. I get about 2 weeks of light bleeding and then a few days of heavy actual period. For my light bleeding time I use things called “softdiscs” which is kind of like a diva cup except they are disposable disc shaped things that slip in over your cervix. You can leave them in up to 12 hours and (ideally) they completely block period blood from getting into your vagingus so you can have mess free sex and even oral if your partner is daring enough.
Downsides are I find they tend to leak quite often and if your flow is real heavy they will at best last you a couple hours, not 12. Also my bf says it hurts his junk so we can’t actually do the do with one in as advertised. I like them because to me they make me feel much sexier then having a tampon string dangling out of me and if I want to ehem take care of myself during my period I can do so without a mess.
When my period is really heavy I have found that only pads work everything else gets burned through in 2 hours or less and its too much of a pain to change that often.
I have honestly considered getting one recently for money reasons. Due to my IUD I am on my period almost 3 weeks out of every month. That gets VERY expensive.
Some are made from rubber, so if allergic to latex there’d be a reaction. If not cleaned properly, infection. There’s always a risk of TSS (toxic shock syndrome) when anything is left in the vagina for long periods of time but with the cups that risk is far below tampons.
