So I bought an ebook about overcoming delusions. I enjoyed reading this book (about half) before I called it a day and felt like there was hope for me to go the non meds approach. I even went out and bought a drink which can, not always make me delusional the next day. I’ve been had again, people like me a desperate to get better, always racking our brains on what the hell to do in this bad situation. The problem with the books methods is it sounds like there dealing with people who could probably avoid hospital in the first place. My delusions are constant, severe in intensity and severe in there content.
You said it in the title really. I too have snake oil books. All books on ‘natural’ treatments for schizophrenia are snake oil. I bought them years ago when I could actually read.
If you’re trying to go the non meds approach (which I advise against) you definitely don’t want to go messing around with alcohol. You’re double setting yourself up for failure.
But yeah, all the books about “natural” approaches are targeted towards people who have once mild episode of psychosis and then recover. For people with chronic symptoms, medication and therapy together is the best way for recovery.
I’m on injections so I can’t quit just like that. I do agree with what you say. I’m sticking with the meds.
And avoiding other mind-altering substances?
I don’t touch drugs, I have stayed away from them for many years.
Also important to steer clear of booze. APs don’t interact well with alcohol.
