People gossiping about me at work

I’m a housekeeper in a nursing home. I got sick (severe nausea) and took a long lunch. When I came back, one of the ladies in activities was complaining that no one had cleaned the dining room yet. I promptly told her that I was sick, but I will clean it.

Then, I caught a fellow housekeeper telling on of the CNAs that I’m always leaving and complaining that I don’t do a very good job.

I’m frustrated, because I think I do a very good job at work. I do leave sometimes (SOMETIMES) because of my illness, but I do my best. Made me feel like complete crap, and I’m not the sort of person that brushes off what people say about me easily.

Just needed to vent. Maybe someone else has had a similar experience?

If you are doing your job speak to managers and get your complaints about harassment in writing. If you really are always leaving and sick (for whatever reason) try to get well enough to cut back on leaving during your shift or take a medical leave until you are psychically and mentally able to be there.

I thought about going the FMLA route so I’d have a legal case for leaving in case anyone complains about me or tries to get me fired. I think just having a slightly shorter shift would improve things dramatically.

@catchme If someone complains about you try to point out the positive things you do,
tell them you work well and I believe that may reduce the chance of people complaining
about you.
Don’t let the criticism discourage you.

Yeah I’ve dealt with some hostile work environments over the years. Just say F your co workers. The only thing that matters is what your boss thinks. People will stab others in the back and do what ever it takes to make themselves look good and make others look bad.

Just what ever happens at work if you ever get fired or written up save your paper work in case you have to file for disability some day it may help your case.

what a sick society, I would rather be homeless than have to work with these people.
