Peer support anyone?

So we have a mental health house downtown that offers free peer support services (they are supported by grants, proceeds from their thrift shop, and volunteers).

I asked my psych nurse if she was familiar with them and she gave them rave reviews. She was happy I want to start their Zoom peer support group and gave her blessing.

So, do you all have experience with peer support? It’s all on Zoom groups right now due to the pandemic, but how has it helped you?

I live in a group home and the support of the housemates means a lot to me. I think you would gain a lot by joining even if it starts out only Zooming.

I’ve been thinking about going to a mental health clubhouse.

My experience with peer support was fantastic. I was part of a photography group over zoom. I only participated in a few times though, because my paranoia has cut in. But I’m hoping to resume it in the future.

Great to hear! I am feeling encouraged that I will climb out of this really bad relapse I am in, and am glad to hear that the peer support route will likely help, along with a break from work and med increases. Thanks for the replies.

I’ve not had good luck with SZ peer support. This is because I’m too functional and it aggravates others present. In terms of other peer support, I credit Alcoholics Anonymous for keeping me high and dry for over thirty years and I do my best to attend one or more online meetings per week.

the class insisted upon wanting you to go out and tell your struggle/story with mental illness.
I’m certified in Peer to Peer.
it was thru NAMI. I believe it was free.
