NAMI support groups

Who here also goes to a NAMI support group? I went last week and I was very helpful to a sister of a man having a psychotic break, I was able to share my experience and give advice as to how a person with paranoid psychosis thinks. It made me feel good to have been useful. I also met some people with bipolar and a couple people with schizoaffective, and a guy with major depression. I think it was good, it was very supportive.

My local Nami doesn’t do anything. I just contacted them for help and they referred me elsewhere where all they have is men’s groups.

my local group isn’t active right now either.

Yes, I go to a NAMI group. I just started a couple of weeks ago and it’s been very supportive. I am going to keep going.

My local NAMI group has very few people who show up. In fact, at the screening of the movie Bully, it was only my parents and myself, plus one other person who showed up, along with the local president of that chapter of NAMI and her granddaughter.

Very glad you had a positive experience. It’s a great feeling to be able to help people. There are so many who have a bad time on the first go and then don’t go again. Glad that worked out for you. I hope you get to go again.

I found my SZ group through a day hospital when I was younger. I like it. I keep going. My sis would go to a sibling support group but it’s in the process of disbanding.

It’s a little odd for me, many of the people in my SZ support group are also in my AA group so we see each other quite a bit.
