it sucks, I just want 20 hours a week, 4 hours a day 5 days a week with two days off. good luck finding that around here. im going to try the casino next year, maybe dishwasher or something.
employers seem to have all the power in this economy, they dictate the amount of hours you work and don’t seem to be flexible. it would be easier for me to find a job working 50 hours a week and making 30k than it would to find a job for 20 hours a week at a measly 12k per year.
it’s frustrating.
summary: im mentally starting to prepare myself to go back to work.
@Lifer, In my working experience, I never found that to be the case. I always found that employers always preferred to hire me part time that way they didn’t have to pay me any benefits.
yeah I don’t know, I always end up with more hours than I want. they dictate the schedule, if you can’t fit it in. your deemed replaceable. maybe i’ll have more luck now that im considered disabled.
Actually, now that I have a “disabled” label, I find it absolutely impossible to find a job. Of any kind. Even the lowest of the lowest kind of job. Nobody wants to hire someone who has been on social security disability at all.
Part time work is available here, but part time work messes with one’s benefits. The welfare system seems to be all or nothing in that regard. Either one is disabled or one is not, they think. There’s no accounting for a limited disability.
Sorry you’re having difficulty finding a job. Do you have a best buy near you? They’re insanely flexible and very disability friendly. I worked there until I couldn’t work anymore and they were more than accommodating.
