Paranoid sz without hallucinations?

Is this possible? My old doc told me that I have paranoid sz

Yeah I think it’s possible. You can only have delusions… at least that’s my understanding.

I was diagnosed paranoid sz. I have no hallucinations. I don’t think they consider paranoid sz a subtype anymore, though. At least not in the US.

idk why my doc then said that

It’s kind of a technicality. According to an internet search they just call it schizophrenia with paranoia now. They just supposedly don’t use the subtype anymore. Like I said, at least in the US.

What does it matter if it’s called schizophrenia or paranoid schizophrenia, really though?

Sorry, I sidetracked the discussion with technicalities a bit. The point is I was diagnosed without hallucinations.

so u had delusions and negatives?

I honestly can’t tell you exactly how my psychiatrist in the hospital diagnosed me. If she saw negatives in me I have no idea. But I seem to have negatives now. I just know that I have seen “paranoid schizophrenia” on my paperwork before. And I have never had hallucinations.

If you have had just 2 positive symptoms for a period of 6 month then you are considered schizophrenic. I don’t exactly know how the judge weather you are paranoid schizophrenic. But welcome to to the club of paranoid schizophrenic which I’m also member of. Just remember that the illness is highly treatable and that most paranoid schizophrenics don’t have severe negative symptoms.

hello! nice to meet fellow szs

The old diagnosis of sz ,which I think paranoid sz would be diagnosed under said something about, if the delusions were “bizarre enough”, i believe that you did not need multiple symptoms. THis wouldve been DSM4.

YOu’re right though, under DSM5 you need two positive symptoms.

Again, no idea if this applies in her country.

what about ICD?

I don’t know about ICD. You could probably look it up.

You really should trust your pdoc to diagnose you though @Crystal-Cotton . I’m not sure I should even be indulging you with the information I do know.
