Paranoid sz without hallucinations?

Its asking to confirm a diagnosis

Yeah, I have paranoid schizophrenia without hallucinations.

I got diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia without hallucinations. I was a pilot so they didn’t really want to diagnose me with anything. I got adjustment disorder at first. No antipsychotic. I was really bad off.

The doctors told me if I was on medication for less than six months i would go back to flying status. I only had an antidepressant. I forget which one.

I kept getting hospitalized though and about 9 months later they started me on antipsychotics and changed my diagnosis to delusional disorder. I took Geodon but a very low dose and only at night.

I never got any better and the hospital trips kept a coming. About a year later I was in the hospital about a month and they changed my diagnosis to paranoid schizophrenia. They made a big deal about it. They invited my wife to the hospital and we were in a big room with several shrinks and a physicians assistant and some psych nurses. We were all siting down and my Army doctor said your diagnosis is paranoid schizophrenia.

I had no clue what that was so I didn’t argue with him but my wife did. I was nearly 40. That’s apparently very unusual for that diagnosis. The female civilian doctor said if you don’t like that diagnosis we can change it to PTSD. Again I didn’t say anything because I had no clue what schizophrenia was.

That night my Army doctor let me take the DSM 4 manual to my room and read it. I was like I don’t have that. Never believed I had anything really. I just thought there was a conspiracy against me. I thought it was the government and I was a Marine and worked for the government so it seemed plausible to me.

After I got out of the hospital he told me to watch a Beautiful Mind and my wife and i watched it and I was like I don’t have that. I don’t have any imaginary friends.

Later i was still trying to come off the medication. I already had a psychotic disorder diagnosis and lost my flying status but I wanted to get it back. I kept asking to come off if it and my doctor never would agree so I quit taking it cold turkey.

I made it 5 days and was in the ER hallucinating just like John Nash did in the movie. I understand that he didn’t really have visuals and just heard voices but I now had both. I see other people and they talk to me.

That’s a long very condensed explanation but I tell you that to warn you. You aren’t out of the woods yet.

Without proper treatment the disease gets worse.
