8 months ago i had psychosis. I had delusons and my parents called an ambulance. They took me to a hospital where i was hospitalized and they put me on antipsychotic. Pdoc there never asked me about the issues i had he just listened to what my parents had to say (im not a kid btw) and my parents are the champions at complicating things. He diagnosed me with paranoid shizophrenia.
How do i have paranoid shizophrenia if im not/wasn´t hearing and seeing stuff and i wasn´t paranoid either? I just got a deluson…over night just like that. I had it for 2 days and the they took me to a hospital.
What do you think is it possible that i have paranoid shizophrenia even if i never heard voices and saw things?
I think i had a psychosis and it happened because of stress.
I am diagnosed SZA, i have only one psoitive symptom and thats delusion, i usually dont become delusional that often, within 8 years i was delusional before med and after med due to drinking heavy. I dont believe in my diagnosis, but i do believe that i have mental illness but noting in the category of schiz.
Psychatrists can make mestake, maybe you have stress related psychosis, there is a diagnosis for that its called brief psychosis, stress trigger or without stress, or it can be one time psychosis and you go be back to your healthy state.
I can understand they can make a mistake and i´m not angry at that pdoc there at the hospital if he made a mistake, but i do wish he´d ask me things and listened!
I also think it was brief psychosis. I never spoke about all this with my current pdoc but i do plan to bring it up to her soon.
Here in the US, I think psychiatrists wait months before fully diagnosing schizophrenia.
And meet people multiple times before deciding. They can go with psychotic disorder not otherwise specified.
Even people that eventually get diagnosed can be diagnosed with different things by different doctors.
Psychosis can be from alcohol or drugs and can go away. Then the doctor can say they weren’t wrong as psychotic disorder can go away and there is no need for a doctor. Psychosis is a brain disease and people should be given a complete medical exam to rule out organic causes before saying a person has schizophrenia.
I’m sorry if you had a stressful experience and I hope you never have one again.
I think english is the hardest and most inconsistent language. so I’ve read.
Here in Sweden you must have psychosis atleast 6 months to get a schizophrenia diagnose. You can’t get it from one visit. I was in hospital for 6 months and I got schizophreniform diagnose to begin with.
Yeah maybe the psychiatrist made a mistake…I’ve been experiencing junk like that my whole life WITH paranoia and whatnot included and I wasn’t even diagnosed with sz, just anxiety and a psychotic disorder. I guess it depends on what doctor you see…definitely touch base with them on how you feel because antipsychotics shouldn’t just be taken for fun…
Well, here in the Philippines, you can be diagnosed paranoid schizophrenia after only few minutes of interview, even without the patient knowing or being questioned. From that diagnosis they can earn $1,200+ in a month virtually doing nothing. Was a victim of this corrupt system myself. The psychiatrist came from the “best” university here in the country, was referred by a relative, so my parents were unsuspecting.
I went on an extreme diet, exercise and was malnourished for 7 months, and that was the root cause of my Psychosis, I even lost my sense of smell right before the episode. The Psychiatrist didn’t know about that fact because he only asked my parents and was only thinking about his pocket. I changed my eating habits and my Psychosis was cured.
**If you are currently seeing a doctor and are taking any medications, I would tell them about this.
I agree with @katwomansz…a lot of things can cause psychosis. **
Well, there’s schizophreniform. That’s like a temporary SZ. Or ‘brief psychotic disorder’ if you had symptoms for less than a month.
Otherwise, you only meet the criteria for SZ if you display markedly reduced functioning (work, school, relationships functionality problems). Plus you usually have to have 2 (or 3?) main symptoms: delusions, hallucinations, disordered behavior/thought/speech, catatonic behavior, negative symptoms (problems with motivation, affect, etc). And have to have them for some 6 months or something.
Now, as nobody here can diagnose anyone, nobody here can undiagnose anyone either. I recommend you talk to your doctor and ask their reasoning.
You should ask yourself what are the mechanics that caused the delusion. Theres a gal over in a n other forum that posts from time to time , she doesnt think shes sick but she has all the hallmarks of paranoid schiz. So you should ask yourself what caused you to become delusional?
Edit : the above ‘gal’ is in no way a direct reference to you( i know how delusions go) , i quote her simply , because she really has no objective idea of her sympthoms , maybe its possible that you dont know your sympthoms. A paranoid schiz dx usually only happens after 6 months of sympthoms.
I do know my symptoms. I don´t have paranoia an hallucinations and i never had them. I just got a delusion and it lasted for 2 days before they took me to a hospital where i was put on antipsychotic.
If i had problems for a month or as other here say for 6 months id belive my diagnosis. But now i really don´t. I think it was brief psychosis.
I fear my new pdoc would belive this diagnosis and would never wean me off medication.
There are many different causes of psychotic experiences.
Too many psychiatrists quickly jump to the schizophrenia dx and many ignore the other illnesses or causes of psychosis.
The schizophrenia diagnosis is becoming a catch - all term for anyone who experiences out of the ordinary events.
In the past, difficult patients were quickly diagnosed as borderline or schizophrenic by many psychiatrists.
The diagnostic system is pretty much a bunch of baloney
I would just talk to your pdoc about how you don’t believe your schizophrenic and that you would like to come off the medicine to see. Maybe under his/her supervision he/she will let you do it. If not you could always try and find a new doctor that would allow you to come off the medicine and see.
my psychiatrist too waits months to make a proper diagnosis. currently I have non organic psychosis, psychosis nos. sometime it may be schizophrenia. because of my mood swings i was diagnosed schizoaffective at first but now doc wants to wait.
