Currently a week into first ever ‘wellness’ mania.
Please can someone bring me up to speed with the modern reality of healthcare vs electroshock treatment? I researched UK law and it says ppl can be forcibly institutionalised easily, and made to take bad drugs. Not too keen on that. Need to get good.
I agree it is fairly easy to get sectioned but cutbacks mean being admitted onto the ward is a lot harder than it used to be. Are you seeing a psychiatrist? I have found building a good relationship kinda limits the amount of time spent on the ward.
Electro therapy is hardly used for SZ anymore. And when it is it is a lot less traumatic than the tv makes out.
it’s just adverts, most web sites have them. web sites cost money to operate, so they use ads.

i doubt you will be forced to have electroshock treatment unless you ask for it. these days it’s mostly used for depression, and it’s not as bad as the holly wood movies make it appear. it’s very rarely done.
meds help most people, but i understand you not wanting them forced on you. are we talking about you, do you have a diagnosis?

i think they can only section you/institutionalise you if you’re a danger to yourself or others. i’ve never been institutionalised.
Researchers sometimes post ads on these forums and on this site. Sometimes they are online surveys, other times they are studies where you need to go visit the academic institution. We like to support research because we all ultimately will benefit from new knowledge about the disorder.
Some seem to - but its not easy. Therapy and medications seem to help.
