Oxazepam -- a miracle?

I came to the same conclusion, that taking a benzo and possibly becoming dependent on it was worth it if it meant I could get some sleep. But I’ve also read some real horror stories about benzo withdrawal on the Internet.

yea valium is actually what they use to taper off of stronger benzos because it has a super long half life and the dose can be decreased much more than the higher potency ones due to it being weaker by weight. benzos are odd, i never had an addiction but i developed physiological dependemce very rapidly, i would only take it once or twice a week and like once a month would take it every 1-2 days for a week, it never felt inebriating or anything but once i stopped taking it i thought id be fine, 2 weeks later i have the worse panic attack of my life and from then on i got increasingly worse unusual depression that wouldnt even improve from taking it again, screwed my gaba receptors, took over a year to start feeling normal again

I tried benzos. I hate them. They’re dangerous, but work well for some. I think they messed me up and my memory. I’m glad I didn’t get addicted. Only thing I’m addicted to is caffeine and nicotine. I’m looking at sodium benzoate now. It’s for negative symptoms and energy and focus.

Benzo gives some memory side effect and make short term memory worse so I won’t take them

I was prescribed Xanax for panic disorder and sleep 2 years ago and it worked beautifully. I loved it. The problem is, around May 1st, 2021, I hit tolerance with it and it stopped working. a 2mg Xanax (zannie bar) wouldn’t put me to sleep and neither would ambien, so I had to start withdrawing/tapering. I was prescribed 4mg a day and now I am down to .12mg a day. .06mg in the morning and at bedtime. I hope to be done with it in less than 2 months. It takes a LONG time to wean off Xanax (or any Benzo), especially if you are on a high dose like I was. I had horrible rebound anxiety and insomnia that has gotten better but I still battle it. I was prescribed Vistaril to help with the anxiety and ti does help but it makes me tired. Not tired enough to sleep though, so I am stuck like an exhausted insomniac zombie.

I hope your Rx works great for you and you never have any problems with it. If I didn’t have problems with Xanax, I’d still be taking it. Benzo’s work great (a lot of the time) for anxiety and insomnia. I wish you the best.

It is probably the most controversial group of psych meds. The addiction rates are through the roof, really, and quitting them is very difficult. Be very careful with them, even with taking them as prescribed.

Daily use will end up with you building a strong dependence and tolerance. And it won’t take that long.
