Our puppy is going to the pet Emergency Vet soon

My stepdaughter and her mom think she got into the bug repellent spray they accidentally left out. The vet gave her activated charcoal to soak up the potential poison. She had no fever and breathing etc was normal.

My stepdaughter is staying up all night with her. We can’t afford overnight care. No one would allow a payment plan so it was over $1,000 for the visit. Stupid.

That’s a bloody fortune.

$1000 is a lot of money.

Glad she is feeling better though.

It cost us about 1000$+ for the fall also.

Because he was bleeding, they treated him right away. We ended up not having enough to cover the expenses and they had to allow us to pay it off when we could.

It’s not stupid. Mistakes happen. Our dog is blind and walked off the 2nd floor and we were always careful but one slip up leaving the door open allowed him to leave the room and fall.

He is always on a leash or barricaded now.

That seems quite high for an exam and charcoal. I’d ask for an itemized bill.

Typically even emergency vets do not charge that much unless it’s an overnight stay.

I hope your vet actually cares about dogs and is interested in more than just money.

When my dog ate half a pound of chocolate,

She had to go to the emergency vet,

Induce vomiting and was given charcoal also.

Even here in California it was about $500.

I’d definitely get a detailed bill and see what all these charges are about.

It cost me $205 just to have Calliope put down earlier this month. I was curious and looked it up. The chemicals involved cost $1.35. That’s some good markup for something that took 20 minutes.

@anon4362788 , they ran tests of her blood and urine and feces too. But the itemized bill is a good idea. I’ll ask for one

Although Emergency Vets are expensive, $1000 for charcoal treatments without an overnight stay seems very high.

They ran tests as well. The visit alone was $300. Then the blood tests etc. every time I’ve ever had to use the emergency vet it’s been extremely expensive.

Brownie is doing well. We have been giving her little bits of food throughout the day and she’s kept it down.

Good sounds like you found the problem

Guinea pig cremations (group, no bringing home ashes) cost 70-something. Ghost’s bi-monthly shot runs $300, and his annual check-up today was $370. We have a reasonably priced vet for our area. I am not too surprised by a 1k EV visit that included testing.

Yeah I guess I’m not too surprised by the ER visit for Brownie

My regular Vet is expensive as well.

Costing me a couple of hundreds of dollars for a routine checkup

Vet care and especially emergency vet care is expensive. We probably payed $600 when our one year old cat was throwing up a couple months ago. We had just canceled our vet insurance.

@Sunlit , pet insurance often doesn’t pay much towards the bill anyway. But I’m sorry you had to pay so much :frowning:
