He and I were about 10. We stopped in a restaurant for snacks afterward. We didn’t realize my friend had never been in a restaurant before. When he saw a picture of a steak on the menu, he ordered it. Nobody noticed him do that and when the waitress brought out our orders, my Dad was quite upset. Luckily, he had enough money to pay for it. Ignorance is bliss.
Growing up, I always knew to order the cheapest item on the menu. Thats how my mom taught me. If it was a cup of soup, so be it. That’s what you get.
Yeah, our family was kind of like that too. I never had a steak in a restaurant until I was in my twenties. It carried on into my adulthood, I think I’ve had lobster in a restaurant once or twice.
As a child, we almost never went to restaurants. The exception would be the rare treat of going to a Howard Johnsons restaurant for dinner. I always ordered the deep fried clam strips
I rarely ate at restaurants growing up too. My parents were not into it.
We ate at a nice restaurant once a year. We’d get an income tax return, and Mom would take us to a restaurant, generally a steakhouse. It was really special because it was uncommon. I loved those restaurant trips.
Mine too. But now I get a meal, I just make sure I get one of the least expensive ones
