Operation Minimalism is a go

I have managed to cut my stockpile of clothes down to one basket. I’m not kidding when I say I donated over 30 bags of clothes, a lot of them being 30 gallon but a decent amount being 90 gallon. I have also been donating clothes that don’t fit as I’ve lost weight. I’m currently down 104 lbs! Or about 47kg for those who don’t use imperial measurements.

Now it’s time to start donating my physical stuff that I don’t use. I had a hard time accepting that I have to let go of clothes, but once I started it became fun. I’m also looking to dress more mature as I finish up my bachelors degree over the next year and will want to look more professional than my superhero graphic tees allowed me to.

For me I did a couple of things, one being getting my sleep apnea treated and the other is I worked with a registered dietitian. I don’t want to give out any nutrition advice, but the key for me is counting calories and eating high volume low calorie foods. If I can keep my hunger at bay throughout the day, then I don’t binge eat late at night which is when I would consume most of my calories.

I recommend talking to a dietitian for multiple reasons, including if one may be prone to diet issues among other things. I did try every diet under the sun, but none of them were sustainable for me. Working with an RD she guided me through all of the factors that contribute to my weight gain from my sleep apnea, to getting my hormones and thyroid checked out, and other factors that cause me to be hungry on top of my medicine.

Go with a registered dietitian, don’t follow fad diets, and get your blood, hormones, and sleep checked. The results are more sustainable than anything else I’ve tried, and I even went through some very hard times that would have derailed me at any other time in the past.

It’s good to cut back your stuff. I moved overseas over 20 years ago. Went with a suitcase. Spent two years overseas and moved back with the same suitcase…

Ever since then I’ve been cutting back my hoard. I used to cart boxes of books around with me when I moved. Now I just do a kindle and download everything. Music has been the same for 20 years. Everything is digital.

You can still live a great life without much stuff…and these days with things like tiny houses and stuff it’s doable.

I wish you well with your journey but applaud you for cutting back on the fluff. It’s surprising how little you need when you give up some things.

Good on you, @Squanchy !

I need to thin out my wardrobe too. Probably going to give away a lot of graphic tees, but only keep the horror movie shirts or anything rare.

That’s where I’d like to get, and I’m pretty close clothes wise. If I had to move tomorrow it wouldn’t be too big of a hassle. I definitely like less clutter lying about.
