I’d buy that, honestly. Some of the autism communities I’m in I think a lot of the people who are self-diagnosed may not be autists, just a-holes looking for a means to justify their behaviour.

I may be criticised for this, but here goes. IME there are many self diagnosed people who won’t even entertain the possibility that they might not be autistic. Failure to get a diagnosis will result in seeking a second, or even third, assessment. They invariably place great emphasis on ‘masking’ as proof that they’re autistic.

I got diagnosed with Asperger’s while inpatient, but that was before schizophrenia. I did an ‘autism test’, but not a lot of doctors believed I had it. They pushed schizophrenia, which I believe makes more sense and is my main problem. I read it’s possible to have both, but it’s pretty rare like 5 % or less. It is not my main concern anymore. I don’t think my family actually believes it any ways.
I honestly don’t believe there’s an overdiagnosis (wherein the UK is concerned) but I don’t trust online diagnostics either. The fact professionals don’t test or test but still use these tests is worrisome

I don’t know about over diagnosed as an issue but definitely self diagnosed people are. I’m not strictly against it as a starting point for treatment and diagnosis but yeah I work with a lot of people that say they’re autistic yet get shitty with me when I’m just communicating directly or trying to adhere to rules, they all make small talk all day and eye contact, etc. it just feels like people want the label more than anything when there are a lot of other things that overlap. I’m diagnosed with autism and sza, and been rediagnosed with both multiple times, and I just don’t bring it up most of the time.

i got self online reports but it was the test according to my dna.does this count as a self reports?according to this report 12 autism related gene of 24 genes is abnormal in my case and according to this report my autism possibilities are average
Re that research - I wonder how many were neurotypical professionals deciding how autistic persons should be,should react.
A good online test should not be regarded as a definitive diagnostic tool, but one that gives you a good indication as to whether you should pursue the matter further with a health professional, or not.
