Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic 🍷

I’m 11 years sober and the desire to drink has come back recently.

Today was particularly bad. I felt the urge to drink was as strong as it was in the beginning when I gave up alcohol.

I have no doubt if I gave in, I’d be totally incapacitated in a matter of days. It would be like I never gave it up.

I haven’t been to AA for years and probably won’t go back to them, yet. But I’ll leave that door open.

You CAN stay sober man… sorry ur day is bad…just remeber it doesn’t stay that way forever..the bad day thing i mean

My day has also been rough. Ive been ruminating for like 3 4 hours and its extremely toxic for me. I think im gonna work on some music.

Idk what u think but one thing that can help with the stress is a hobby. I know your poems are pretty good…..maybe you can get into that more?? Like learn the skills for it ?

Congratulations on 11 years. That is really impressive. Hope you manage to hang on to the mentality that kept you sober all those years.

I’m not a alcoholic, but I haven’t really drinked the last 2 and a half years because of stomach issues. I had one beer last new years eve, that’s about it. I don’t miss getting drunk though. Getting drunk never led to anything positive in my life, only misery really.

I wish the drinking culture was different when I was growing up. Nowadays it’s much more widely acceptable to drink alcohol free at parties and such, while when I was growing up you were coerced to get loaded with friends.

I hope you reach out to AA if you feel like you need it. Maybe you can be more liberal with coffee or soft drinks if you feel that would help you take the edge off.

I drank Vodka like a lush all through my Twenties.

Nowadays the only time I drink is when I visit the grandparents and they offer me a single bottled Jack and Coke or Hard Lemonade. That happens 1 or 2 times a month and never goes beyond one bottle so I never get actually drunk.

Funny thing is I can’t drink Vodka now that I’m older, just the smell of it makes me throw up. I stopped drinking as a hobby because it no longer made me feel good, just made me think about death constantly until I got sober again.

Sorry I didn’t notice you were 11 years sober, congratulations. I’ve been to 12 step meetings before, not for alcohol but for something else when I was much younger. I take those programs seriously, they do a lot of good for a lot of people.

I didn’t mean to trigger you by talking about drinking, sorry if I did!

You didn’t. Don’t worry. Thanks again.

Congrats on the 11 years sober. When I was younger and a workaholic I would go out drinking and to strip clubs 7 days a week for years. Extremism is no way to live. Everything in moderation. You need to stay busy and find a substitute to drinking. You can only change habits by adopting new ones otherwise you become more fixated on something if you don’t replace it. Good things.

Funny thing is that during my waking hours I have no craving or urge to drink or use. It’s just in my dreams.
