Olazapine weight gain

Hi folks,

I’ve been taking Olazapine for 18 months or so now and recently have had my dose increased to 15mg per day. I am noticing that I am gaining weight as I seem to be eating more as I feel hungry most of the time. I’ve put on about 18 pounds.

Has anyone else noticed this? Does anyone have any ideas about controlling the hunger issue or is it a matter of just eating less but feeling hungry most of the time. Any input appreciated.

Regards, Zaka

Weight gain is common with Olanzapine as is increased blood glucose.
All the “pine” antipsychotics tend to make people fat.

Yes, i gained ton of weight on that some years ago. They call it the zyprexa munchies

My appetite never increased. But my metebolism slowed down. I have been on this stuff for the last 12 years. I am on 25mg. I have stayed at the same weight for several years by walking. I am about 170lbs and 5ft 6in. So I am about 30 pounds heavier than when I first started. I can’t seem to get back to that. My dad gained like 50lbs in like 2 months, so he couldn’t take it. Not everybody can stay on this. This is an awesome med for me. If your eating like crazy you might have to find another drug. If this is the only drug that works you might end up on my 600lb life.

I put on a crazy amount of weight on it and was working a physical job as a laborer at the time. So don’t think exercise will fix it for you.
