I’m taking 5 mg of olanzapine and 20 mg of aripiprazole. I want to eat a lot. I’m trying to control myself, but I want to eat a lot. How do you guys manage it (for those who take olanzapine)?
I’m trying to eat just healthy, even if so much. Is there another option of medicine as potent as olanzapine which doesn’t make us hungry? Is Latuda good for it? Or is Saphris better?
The Zyprexa is having an effect on your blood sugar, that’s why you feel hungry. Zyprexa is one of the worst offenders of this, it can give you metabolic syndrome if you are on it too long.
I was on zyprexa for quite some time and gained a lot of weight but stayed on it because it worked so well. You may struggle with ur weight the whole time ur on it.
I got off zyprexa and went to haldol which worked good but was restless. And now I’m on rexulti which doesn’t make me hungry at all or restless. Idk where you live if they have that.
I was hungry out of control on abilify and risperdal but not so with olanzapine–my appitite is somewhat normal. I only eat one meal a day and some snacks. I’m also on a lower dose of olanzapine too, 7.5mg, so that could be a part of it.
Olanzapine made me hungry when I was on it too. I had to eat at Village Inn three times a day every day when I was on it. I also had to eat a couple of snack size Milky Way or Snickers candy bars every hour on the hour when I was on it. Even during the wee hours of the night. I would be up all night eating Milky Ways. I gained a tremendous amount of weight on it. And it was very hard to lose. I didn’t lose the weight until many years afterwards.
Maybe so. Never found out. Switched to Geodon. It’s pretty weight neutral but one of the shrinks I saw at the VA was really worried about it causing heart disease. She ordered an EKG for me every six months. My new doc doesn’t seem to be worried about it. Who knows It works for me though.
