Olanzapine

Has anyone been able to lose weight on Olanzapine or at least not gain much more weight?

If you lost weight how did you do it and what dose do you take?

I’m considering adding another antipsychotic to the meds I take and Olanzapine might work best for the issues I’m experiencing right now but I don’t want to gain anymore weight.

Olanzapine makes me a food monster.

Does help a lot with delusions and paranoua though.

And it gives me good sleep.

I reached a maximum weight and have stayed at that weight for many years.

It gave me good sleep when I took it too but I was like 300lbs. Talking with ChatGPT it seems like the best antipsychotic I can take for my delusions but I don’t want to get back up to 300lbs but it said I might only need a low dose. Before I was taking 20mg every night.

It’s good that you’re not gaining weight anymore.

I heard olanzapine was a very difficult med weight wise. Best of luck I’m sure it’s possible.
Idk if I’m remembering rightly but I think @SkinnyMe mentioned being weigh neutral on olanzapine? I may be mistaken

ChatGPT said I need to diet and exercise if I take Olanzapine to not gain weight so maybe if I do that and take a low dose I won’t gain a lot of weight.

@TheCanuk is right…Zyprexa also made me a food monster. It was very hard to control my food intake on Zyprexa…it was almost a compulsive desire to eat. But it was good for psychosis and sleep…coming off of it gave me very bad insomnia but while on it i slept great.

It helped me with those things too. I always felt very calm on it.

I’ve been on it for almost 20 years. I have gained weight. My BMI is overweight. This peaked at almost in the obese range but I have lost 5 kg since January cutting out sugary snacks. I found it gives you a sweet tooth. I got into the habit of buying these snacks and before that it was beer but I’ve had to say bye to buying both. No great loss. It is the best AP I have been on and I hold a job and feel almost normal. Sleep hygiene is important for me and it really helps with that but was disrupted by my drinking for many years, It wasn’t working properly then.

That’s great. I wish I could hold a job.

By restricting & counting calories I lost 50 pounds on olanzapine and risperidone together. But I recently gained some weight because after my surgery I can’t exercise and I’ve been boredom eating. I can get it back off though. I just need to restrict and count calories

How much Olanzapine and Risperidone were you taking? And how long did it take to lose 50lbs?

Same here…gotta count those calories again to lose my hospital weight. And quit eating the Hersheys kisses!

I take 20 mg of olanzapine and 1 mg of risperidone. It took me 9 months to lose 50 pounds.

I take Lybalvi. I only gained 10 lbs, but my stomach seems bigger. I’ve been eating more. I’ve been craving more sweets.

That’s not that bad. What dose of Lybalvi do you take?

I take the max dose so 20mg/10 mg. It has another med in there (opioid blocker) to help reduce hunger and weight gain. So it’s 20 mg of Olanzapine and 10 mg of Samidorphan or w/e.

It’s expensive.

I think overall, I’m doing better with my delusions and psychosis than when I was on Vraylar.

That’s good that it’s helping you.
