My brother is on olanzapine 10mg od for 4 weeks… but negative symptoms still there
Olanzapine was better for me because it didn’t have the weight gain that came with risperidone.
Everyone tolerates meds diff you need to talk to a doc an maybe try them.
Are u still taking olanzapine?
No I’m on a different regimen. Sorry I can’t help.
Yes. I take 5 mg. and also 10 mg Lexapro.
@TheVoices wht med are u taking currently?
In 2008 I got out of the psychiatric hospital on Olanzapine. In 2011 I was diagnosed with diabetes and switched to risperidone. My pdoc explained it by comparing Olanzapine to chocolate cake. You don’t eat it if you have diabetes. He denied Olanzapine can cause diabetes. However when telling my new PCP the story, he said Olanzapine CAN cause diabetes. I was shopping for a new PCP because my old one is going to relocate his practice to a location that isn’t on a bus line.
Because of olanzapine I had 2 extra hospital stay
One in 2016 and in 2017
no insight on it, I may have been overmedicated
Risperidone was better but still avarage
@anon54988740 @PinCushion does olanzapine change your personality?..i.e easily get angry.
What really happen when u took olanzapine? How much did you take olanzapine?
I don’t know that the olanzapine does. I am easily angered when I find I have a hidden head ache.
15 then 10 then 5 for a few weeks
For some peope works just fine
It was not for me
Well I’m not an expert but I seem to be a different person when taking my AP, mainly because all the hallusination’s and dellusions go away. Their absence may cause you to be less angry like it did in me. I don’t seem to get as angry as I used to. But I’m now in Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous which is are spiritual programs. Developing my spiritually has helped me to be less angry too.
I was still having positive symptoms on 7.5 mg of Olanzapine.
I remember walking into a Costco store and thinking that the crowds could read my mind.
Psychic me!
I soon switched over to risperidone and this worked out better for me.
Zyprexa gave me an under active thyroid and elevated my blood glucose levels too much.
Olanzapine 80mg better than risperidone 15mg
Been on both for many years. But i prefer Olanzapine cos it made me eat and i got a good sleep off it. Risperadone just made me agitated.
I only used Olanzapine (first 10mg and then slowly withdrawing), not Risperdal. I did not like it much and switched to old-fashioned haldol, which I tolerate better, strangely, especially in lower doses. For me, Olanzapine had all the side effects of haldol (sleepiness, emotional blunting, depression) plus a whole range of other ones… more physical issues especially… my weight exploded in just a few weeks, I fainted all the time, I had nightmares, my hormones were messed up, I craved sugar constantly, etc. I was only eating and sleeping basicly and my metabolism has never been the same since. Withdrawals on Zyprexa were much worse than on haldol…. Zyprexa withdrawal was when they diagnosed me borderline for a few months, because I had enormous mood swings, from anger and hostility to suicidal depression to fear. Weird stuff too, like calling people up and threatening to jump out of the window of my 11 story flat, things I’m still ashamed of. Never been like that before or after.
But… someone I know just loves Zyprexa. He loves how it makes him feel calm, peaceful and sleepy. He actually looks forward to taking it in the evening at times. Which is alien to me, but the summary:
Experiences with meds differ so incredibly between persons that it is hard to say something useful.
There is actually a class action against olanzipine for causing weight gain and diabetes. Research now says taking one dose of olanzipine is equilivant to eating 1500 extra calories a day. And they are now having to put a black box warning on the med about weight gain. I am currently on resperidone and it is effective for me. Weight gain is minimal. But with resperidone you have the possible side effect of gyno.
I tried Olanzapine a couple of times - it worked fairly well but made me gain a lot of weight. So i came off it. Needed to preserve some self-esteem about myself, and i didn’t want to end up overweight. I’ve never tried Risperidone, but i’ve been on Ziprasidone, which is in the same family i think. It hasn’t worked that good for me. Negative symptoms are the hardest to resolve with medication alone. Often most AP’s don’t do much to address them, and may in fact make it harder for you to get going as they can make you feel sedated.
