im on olanzapine. my a1c was elevated in my most recent blood test which can indicate diabetes. ive read olanzapine can cause it but its the only med that works for me. hopefully i wont have to take insulin injections and maybe it will clear up if i exercise more and maybe take metformin or a similar drug
I would advice you to see a nutritionist.
i know quite a bit about nutrition but applying the knowledge is hard due to ravenous appetite and unhealthy food cravings
I’m on olanzapine. I’ve been on a diet for a month now.
It’s possible to stop the cravings with the right nutrition.
I’m on Olanzapine too and have a big appetite. I’m on a see-food diet. I see food, I eat it.
Hi, have you lost weight so far on your diet?
I don’t know. I don’t have a scale at home.
Ok thanks. I’m really trying to lose weight while taking olanzapine. Im not sure if it affects your metabolism or if it’s just the increase in appetite that makes you gain weight. I’m going to try to cut calories and do more walking. I want to lose 40 pounds.
Good luck!!! 1525
Thanks! I need it while taking this medication.
I was going to develop diabetes if my internist Dr didn’t tell my pdoc to stop my olanzapine. My cholesterol also went up as I was eating more. My appetite now on risperidone is considerably less than Zyprexa. I am also doing a diet, started yesterday. Maybe switch back to Invega? Weren’t you on Geodon?
i was going nuts on geodon it doesnt work for me, almost worse than no meds. maybe i will try risperidone as i did ok on invega, risperidone is more sedating than invega tho but so is olanzapine and it doesnt make me that sleepy. idk if i would go on invega just because i like going to sleep early and im still unsure if my first year of it when i was unstable was due to klonopin withdrawal or partially due to it not being effective enough
i kinda want to stay on olanzapine tho im tired of playing russian roulette with meds as my friend would say
I developed diabetes on Olanzapine. I’m no longer on Olanzapine but my blood tests are still in the prediabetes range.
I take Forxiga and Metformin.
I was part of a class action lawsuit in Canada over Olanzapine giving a lot of people diabetes. We won!
I took it for a month, and it triggered DKA and pancreatic attack. Was in the hospital for twelve days. I will never take it again.
did they pay you? how much if you dont mind sharing the info?
I think it was 7k if I remember
wow ive never had that much money at once before. ive also not held a job for longer than two days and it was my first job. kinda sucks i got sz at 15 so dont have much life experience. i spent about 11k last year from stimulus checks and my online reselling electronics sales and money from my mom. i think the most money ive had in my account at once is like $1000 when i first opened the account and my dad gave me it on my 18th birthday
Honestly 7k doesn’t make up for getting diabetes. Diabetes can lead to a lot of different health problems.
I’d give back the 7k if it meant my pancreas would work properly again.
true diabetes is no good. when you think about it the annual cost of insulin without insurance is almost $7k a year
