I took Olanzapine (zyprexa) for years and didn’t get diabetes. I think it’s helpful to exercise and watch your weight through diet.

Great that the meds work for you on a relatively low dose. I take 12 mg Invega now (the max dose). I need a high dose of AP to have any effect.

I’ve managed to avoid it so far. Been on it for about 15 years. I watch what I eat and try to keep weight stable. Also I excersise a couple of times a week and try to go for a walk most days.

Consider yourself lucky. I’ve been a zombie and tend to sleep upto 12 hours. But it has gotten better over the years.

Is diabetes mostly caused by being obese? I know very little about it. I don’t get hungry from olanzapine, I’m stable at the same weight.

I already had diabetes before starting on it. Within a month, I was in DKA and had an acute pancreatic attack because it raised my triglycerides to 8,000. I was in ICU for 12 days dealing with it. But this is my experience with it. It could be very different for people who don’t have diabetes to begin with.

I used to be on Zyprexa, it wreaked havoc with my blood sugar and I got extremely ill, I can never take it again. Something that will help with blood sugar is an obscure supplement called methoxyisoflavone, another thing that works is beta ecdysterone. Also l-glutamine and also l-arginine trigger a release of HGH (Human Growth Hormone) that will make you feel alot better, this is harmless, no side effects.

I was on 40mg of Olanzapine for about 17 years.

I developed diabetes and had A1Cs of 8-9 for many years.

I’m now on Latuda and my blood sugar is down to prediabetic levels. Low 6s.
