In case anyone was wondering how this was going, I was recently informed that I was wait-listed for my nursing program. I see it as a good and bad thing because I’m glad I wasn’t rejected & met their qualifications, but am stressed about being in limbo as to if I’ll get in or not for a longer period of time.
Furthermore I found out that even to be accepted into my program I have to fill out a form declaring my mental health diagnosis because they specifically call out people with bipolar or psychotic disorder diagnoses and unfortunately w a DX of schizoaffective bipolar type I’m a double whammy. I am very reasonably nervous this will negatively affect my ranking on the wait-list, despite knowing I am just as qualified as any other candidate if not more so.
Anyways that’s where I am right now. Meeting w someone from the school to talk about it hopefully sometime soon.
Remember you are an inspiration to many of us with severe mental when you take steps like this. I know I can’t speak for everyone, but you really inspire me.
I hope you get in. Nursing is such a rewarding job if you can cope with it. I did work experience in a hospital and you really get attached to the environment (well I wasn’t actually doing all the hard work but still).
@Anna, I wish you all the blessings in the world with your nursing education and career. Make sure the Dean of the school knows about your illness so they can make accommodations for you under the Disability Act.
