Not only do I have autism, I also have ADHD

Not sure I mentioned this before. But I have both. I’m sceptical of going on ADHD meds because they carry a risk of psychosis. And I can’t afford another episode after the two I have had. At least I’m getting close to getting some answers. Because I feel these diagnosis fit. Doesn’t explain the psychosis yet though.

ADHD is usually caused by some kind of abnormality of some certain substances or chemicals in your brain, hence you may have difficulty concentrating your attention. And ADHD meds usually alter or affect the chemicals in your brain in question, thus treating the ADHD.

If you feel the two diagnoses of autism and ADHD actually fit you, then I recommend that you go on to have a try on the meds. Unless, you said you had two psychosis before, and you think that your psychosis is related to neither your autism nor your ADHD. And you did not disclose the details of your psychosis to your doctors. Then there is a chance that you may be comorbid with a third disease. Do your doctors know the complexity of your illness? If they do, and they still prescribe the said meds to you, then you may go ahead taking them. And return to see your docs if any discomfort happens. If you’re still in doubt, you may raise your concerns with your docs now.

Only a doctor can really know what’s available for it

It must be difficult having all of those conditions.

All the doctors I’ve seen refused to prescribe me adderall due to my schizophrenia diagnosis. It makes sense. I really struggled with motivation and energy.

I was never diagnosed with ADHD. I had to see a specialist and get tested. I’m addicted to energy drinks and decided not to do the tests.

I was given adderall once (I believe) while inpatient (for studying) and I had a bad reaction.

I was told stimulants can worsen psychosis and give one more symptoms.

In the past, I had trouble with reading and doing stuff. I guess it’s just schizophrenia and cognitive issues.

I thought it would help me.

@Ish I hope this can result in help, support, and treatments that’s tailored better to you as an individual.

I think the inattentive type, as suggested by a lot of very high IQ people with ADHD that I know, applies to me. It would certainly explain a lot. That having been said , at 67 there would be no great benefit from getting a diagnosis. I can and do see how beneficial it would be if of school or working age. It’s just another thing, like the autism, that should’ve been picked up on much earlier.
