NOT ABOUT POLITICS! Ok, so My dad is opposed to SSDI and ssi

And it’s hard talking to him.

He thinks every should earn their money no matter what

Never mind that I worked for 30 years and for 30 years paid into the SSDI that I’m now receiving.

It’s unfair to judge people for needing help.

It’s even harder when it’s your own parent.

Although my dad was extremely violent, drunk, and downright mean when I was growing up, so it shouldn’t bother me

But it does bother me. A lot.

How would/do you handle this?

I think every human life is worthy of getting assistance when in a tight spot. And in your case youve even worked for 30 years. You have already earned the payments for the rest of your life in my opinion. But even if you hadn’t worked. You would have deserved it. Some people are jealous or angry about it because they hate thier jobs/life. But flip them the middle finger i say. It must suck that your dad isn’t on your side about it though.

My opinion is that a society which considers itself ‘civilised’ should have a duty to look after its old and sick.

Yeah @Ozzyskits . It really sucks.

The one good thing about my dad has always been his work ethic.

He makes me feel like I have no work ethic at all. Like I’m a total loser. It sucks.

People on disability have earned their money the hardest way a person can and at the highest cost. Also usually with one of the lowest rewards because the payments are too low to live on. It sucks that people don’t respect why people are on a disability income or respect the disabled enough to give them an income where they could experience dignity.

Yes, this pixxes me off.

Well if you don’t work here, your forced to see a job search agency who helps you/makes you find work. Its the only way to get government assistance payments (called centrelink). Of you dont show up to the job search places or apply for a certain amount of jobs a month, then you get cut off centrelink and have no money. Sometimes even if you decline a job offer you can get cut off centrelink. I was in this on and off for years. But now im recognised as having sza and its a bit lighter and more easy going. but i still need to do all that stuff.

What does your father think about the mentally impaired who clearly can’t work? His position isn’t logical, there are those that necessarily require state assistance or it’s a death sentence!

Wow @Ozzyskits thats tough. High pressure

He thinks the people who are mentally slow should be taken care of by family

That’s ridiculous what about orphans?

I’m not sure. I never asked that question

You worked and deserve SSDI. I understand your dad wanting everyone to work because I feel like that sometimes but the truth is some people just can’t. It’s not our fault we got schizophrenia.
