I cant seem to get an appointment with a psychiatrist. Ive been waiting for months and i stilk havnt even recieved an appointment time. Kind of discouragibg since im having a hard time right now.
Have you called them to get them to hurry up? Keep on them, make your presence known. “The squeaky wheel gets the grease”. Keep after them. I don’t mean to stalk them or anything but just to prod them politely into helping you faster if they can. Sometimes psychiatry is like businesses or stores or mechanics.
They need to be pushed sometimes to make them move faster. Ask them what the hold-up is.
Sometimes a receptionist or secretary or whoever is in charge of scheduling appointments will tell you that the doctor, or dentist etc is booked solid and they can’t see you. Well, sometimes these people aren’t telling you the whole truth. Many times, there really are open appointments but they are saving them for regular clients or people who they think should have more priority than you. If you call them up and state your case, there’s a chance that they can move you up. It’s common practice for them to do this. You also might want to ask them if they can call you if another client cancels so you can take this slot and be seen sooner.
I second Nick’s advice. Ask to be put on a cancellation list and keep ringing them pressing the urgency of the situation. Or get your regular GP to call them too.
I think maybe if you wait they think you can wait, you know? I agree that you should be the squeaky wheel and try again… I remember once when I brought my dad into the ER with discomfort in his chest. The nurse was so numb to everything. She gave me a form to fill out and had is sit down. Time passed. I asked when my dad would be seen and got the short answer. I finally went up to her and asked her firmly if she really wanted to take the chance that my dad was having a heart attack and could die in that waiting room under her care…did she really think that through…She had my dad go right back! (Oh, thanks) He had a serious procedure done that night. Anyway, please do speak up. No one cares about you sometimes until you make them care. Good luck!
Yea i will try to call their office then, its cause i requested a specific psychiatrist that my friend recommended. So maybe thats why its taking awhile but before it never took that long. I didnt like my last psychiatrist he wasnt very helpful just told me to watch a youtube video…
I had this problem with my current psychiatrist, they kept putting off when I could see her. said I needed at least three appointments with my therapist before they could schedule an appointment with the psychiatrist.
Oh really thats no good, the first time i went to see a psycgiattist i got in decently fast only took 3 months. But i didnt find it all that useful at the rime but i was having a hard time remembering when my appointments were so i kept missing them and then i didnt want to take any pills, well i tried two and they made me feel worse so i stopped taking them. Though im thinking i may be more open to trying something now. See then i wasnt really sure i needed them but now im open to the idea that they may help. But i am now trying to see a psychiattist my friend recommended but i cant seem to even get an appointment… so im a bit stressed out cause nothing i seem to be doing is helping me feel better.
