That reminds me of the way Chomsky described work in the modern society. I heard or read somewhere that wage labor was looked down upon as equivalent to a new form of slavery. Socialists would agree. Americans have work beat into them becoming even a main source of identity the job they have. It’s be a productive citizen or be a mooch, a problem, or worthless. Many people especially in this economy and with the amount of wealth inequality and corporate welfare are becoming disillusioned. People don’t want life to just be about work especially if you’re just getting by. Europeans seem to have a better work life balance from what I’ve seen.
One issue of work for me is independence. If one can achieve a pay that allows them to be independent then they can rely on themselves and their ability to work. Money is the reward of work for me. I dont love work but I love money and having the energy and free time to enjoy money.
Honestly with the ‘information age’ we also saw the rise of ‘■■■■■■■■ jobs’. AI will get rid of them. It will be tough at first but its an opportunity to really self actualize as well.
