Did / does anyone get bad negative symptoms on Abilify?

I’m on abilify. Lack of motivation is my biggest complaint I guess when it comes to negative symptoms.
Abilify is supposed to help with negatives. So maybe I’d be worse on something else.
What dose are you on ?

I am on 15mg. I have been this way since I got really bad sick a bit before I has to stop working about 2 years before I started on APs. So I don’t know what caused it before Abilify. I thought for a long time I was getting dementia but my pdoc says I don’t have that.

It gave me anxiety at first but that got better. I switched from risperidal to abilify. Abilify works great for me, but did it give you negative symptoms too?
I’m on 10 mg abilify and schizotypal, as you know, i have some negatives, but it has been worse.
I read in a handbook for pdocs (danish) that brain scans showed reduced levels of dopamine in the brain when you have the depressed subtype of schizotypal disorder.
Abilify and a few other AP’s raises some of the dopamine in the brain, lowers other.
I’m going to to se my doctor in a couple of moths, i will ask her about the low/high levels of dopamine and tell you if she got a god alternative to abilify.

I don’t remember what dosage I was on but I took it for 3 months and ended up getting extremely sick from it… I had rare symptoms like vomiting constantly and diarrhea and fever, turned out it was slowly shutting down my organs. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks. Don’t be alarmed tho it was a rare case for me

I think negatives probably come from the illness moreso than your meds, you know? Like, if you switch meds then they’ll still be there. I think meds can make negatives better, but not completely.

I have been on risperdone, geodon, and how abilify.
I only had BAD negs on risperdone.
The Other meds were better with negs.

My negatives are still there but better than they used to be when I was on 15mg abilify. Mainly motivation concentration and alogia

Ok thanks so much. Yes please let me know what she says. You are supposed to have schizotypal from your younger years but I was a little like that BUT never had any negatives until I got sick to the point where it affected me working. That’s why I didn’t understand negatives coming from schizotypal from what I read. They didn’t start until I got ill. I didn’t even have them when got sick and diagnosed bipolar.
My doctor remarked that it’s like I’m catatonic.
Stimulant helping me a little now though.

Ummm wow that’s awful. No I haven’t had much side effects compared to other meds that’s why I’m hoping it’s not the Abilify

Yeah maybe they aren’t even ‘negative symptoms’ but something that looks exactly like it. And I had it before APs. Maybe brain issues from my illnesses like you said but different. I have BP1 w psychosis, am schizotypal, and GAD.
I just figured that they are from meds. Nothing else makes sense. My nurse is helping me trying to help me shower, and daily living stuff so at least I have that.
I didn’t like risperidone. It caused high prolactin and made me pee my pants a little. Nope not kidding. That side effect usually happens with people with significant level of autism on it apparently.
Otherwise it did work. Got off it though and no problems. Abilify worked the same benefits for me but no side effects. Just wondered if it was causing negs

I’f you feel anything it will be the terpenes from the cannabis plant.

Oh sorry I wasn’t very clear. It’s just cos I’m on 5mg abilify at the moment so the negatives are not as intense as on 15mg abilify

Ok I see. Thank you. I don’t think I can go down 
but I should be thankful I guess that I was rescued from most of my psychosis and taken out of a mixed episode. But good to know that Abilify does cause neg type symptoms in some people

Interesting @Artsygal that this thread is saying Abilify can cause an increase in negative symptoms. While I did have clearly evident negative symptoms when on Abilify for about 7 years (after Olanzapine), when I was switched to Risperidone my negative symptoms definitely got worse.
