Negative SZ symptom thread

Has anyone here overcome their negative symptoms well enough to work and pay taxes without feeling like they’re forcing themselves too much?

I know people like @shutterbug and @freakonaleash just power through the symptoms and do what they gotta do, but for most of us SZ sufferers it’s like some kind of unseen hand is physically stopping us from progressing with life.

So, the raw willpower approach works, for one. If it feels like ■■■■, just keep pushing, kind of thing.

Anyone know of supplements that can make the struggle easier though? I’ll start with caffeine, the age-old pick-me-up.

Maybe L-Theanine too? Sarcosine? Would like personal experiences in the thread about whatever works.

I want this to be a central hub for things that clearly help with overcoming negatives, cause they’re really plaguing the SZ community.

I think exercise is one too, but there’s just this clawing internal weakness that is making me feel so powerless, making me just want to do something easy. Bah!

I am almost normal again after starting to excersise an hour a day. I do either yoga or elliptical, plus situps, glute lifts and 15 min stretching. I have medication induced anhedonia and motivation problems, plus disinterest in everything. I’m doing well and will be returning to work in the future.

I have a lot of problems with negatives. The only thing that helped me get out of a horrible funk with them was adding Abilify 10 mg. I also have zoloft 50 mg.

Glad to hear you’re almost normal!

What speed do you run the elliptical at?

@anon4362788, thank you.

I mentioned this before;

What works for me is a combination of stimulants and sedatives. Just the right dosage for each.

I dont know what speed the elliptical is, it is just set on 7 which is some resistance. My legs get a good workout.

Sarcosine helped with more cognitive issues not other negative symptoms. Long term use of a high dose of fish oil has helped with motivation somewhat. I believe that fish oil has helped me to stop sleeping ridiculous amount of hours. It has also helped with libido. I just switched to latuda from invega sustenna which I think is helping me to fell a little bit better. I am still not where I need to be to start working full time. But I have noticed some improvements.

My simple thing was more exercise. I sleep less. Have more motivation but it’s one of those catch 22 situations. You need to do more exercise to feel benefits but doing that helps the desire to do it. IF you don’t have the motivation it can be hard to start and stay with it.

I’ve gotten some really good results. Same meds, same doses, same time I take them etc. Only difference was exercise.

I work fulltime, but i’ll be the first to admit that i power through it and try to ignore the negative symptoms. By the end of the day, however, i’m wrecked. My cognition deteriorates. I have trouble thinking and talking. I start to become almost catatonic. The only thing that helps is my as required medication. I admire anyone who works and gets through it fine.

I really admire the people who can just push through it. I do yoga every morning and work part time, but even part time is enough. I don’t get much else done besides work because of the negatives. I’d love some tips on managing better.

Negatives are much better now.
I did nothing. It happened on its own.
Last year I was on the couch all day long, watching stupid tv and staring at the ceiling.
Now i go out, i listen to music again etc

I don’t do much. I have little ambition or goals I’m working towards . How much that is due to negative symptoms , or just a personality trait, is hard to tell.

Now, I don’t look disabled anymore. Cos I have mainly positive symptoms. Some voices and some visions. But my behavior is quite normal.
I still have agoraphobia, and I have a hard time outside. But overall, I am much better. I wanna make it clear to you people, to make you feel that there is always hope and room for improvement.
And I never tried supplements. I don’t believe in them

You recently had your antipsychotics reduced from heroic levels to reasonable levels. Perhaps that helped your negatives?

I power through them and work. I take Wellbutrin and Latuda and that helps but I still have negatives pretty bad and they are an everyday thing. You just have to push past them.

No, even before the reduction of meds, by the new psychiatrist, I was without significant negative symptoms. It was the right time, it seems. The right time for negatives, the right time for absence thereof
