I read your message and I’m very sorry for you. I also have been neglected by my parents but I was lucky because I didn’t have any sexual abuse, only physical violence and psychological cruelty.
I think that abuse in childhood can cause mental illness. But it’s a good thing for you that you forgive them. I also did but I’m still angry against them.
I accept my flaws and the problems I’m having in life and that are preventing me from being happy because I know that this is not my fault.

I’m really sorry you suffered this abuse @freakonaleash. I had some physical abuse in a behavioral ward but that was not ongoing. Thankfully there was no overt abuse to me by my family. it seems like you’ve done pretty well for yourself all things considered.
